How to encrypt an SD card with a home folder on it on Mac?

My 128GB MacBook Air is running out of space. So I moved my Home folder to a 256GB SD card formatted in APFS and made it my default home folder through "Users & Groups" in Preferences. It worked perfectly, but I realize my data could be vulnerable, as it's easy to take out the SD card to access my data. That's why I want to encrypt it. Any idea?

You can encrypt the SD card that has a home folder on it with FileVault. Open Finder, then right-click on the SD card and select Encrypt. On the pop-up window, enter your password information and click "Encrypt Disk."

After the SD card is encrypted, you'll need to enter the password to unlock it before you can access the home folder the next time you log into your Mac. To avoid the trouble, you can use BootUnlock to automatically unlock the SD card upon logging in.
