com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 49218: could not mount external Sandisk SSD

I'm suddenly unable to mount an external USB-C SSD on my Mac running macOS Catalina 10.15.5. Disk Utility recognizes it but when I tried to mount it, I got a message reading "Could not mount "drive_name". (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 49218.)." I repaired it using the diskutil repair command but it didn't work. I also tried Disk Utility from Recovery mode and connect the disk with another USB-C cable with no success. This drive is only 4 months old. Any idea on how to recover my data?
